The Corporation has encountered many changes since is foundation nearly 30 years ago.
Founded as the Land Commission of New South Wales in 1975, Landcom was set up to offer affordable houses on Sydney's fringe. We joined forces with the Housing Commission in the mid 80's, separating from them in 1993.
The Corporation's growing interest in commercial property led to the merge with the State's Property Services Group, but the further evolution of Landcom saw that merger end in 1995 with even bigger things to come.
From 2002 Landcom became a State Owned Corporation and a development arm of the New South Wales Government. Today Landcom is a leading masterplanner, facilitator and developer of sustainable communities in NSW.
Landcom's new face is more complex than first impressions allow. Having begun simply as a land provider, Landcom has grown into a multi faceted industry leader when it comes to innovation, sustainability and building relationships with public and private industry to achieve the best outcomes for the development as well as surrounding communities.
What makes Landcom unique is that we are the only developer in the world measuring our performance on social and environmental achievements as well as financial outcomes. The results, based on our Triple Bottom Line reporting, is known as our 'Sustainability' Report.
As the population of New South Wales grows and the pressure mounts on the State's environment, resources and infrastructure, Landcom recognises that our primary challenge is to use our unique position to balance environmental and social sustainability with commercial gain.
